I had taken IELTS twice and got 6.0 in speaking both times. Nobody had ever explained to me what the examiner was actually scoring. In the first lesson Sneha put the four band descriptors on the screen and recorded me answering a Part 2 card. We listened back together. My fluency was fine — I was losing marks on coherence, because every answer went in a circle. We spent three weeks only on structure, then three weeks on paraphrasing, then five weeks of full mocks. I scored 7.5 in speaking and 7.0 overall.

The thing that worked for me was the error log. After every lesson I received an email with exactly what I had said wrong and what I should have said. I read it on the train the next morning.
